|Chris Sackett, of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, is a Chartered Management Accountant and was, until enforced early retirement in 1998 when the business was taken over, chief executive of the Guernsey Press group of companies, which amongst other things publishes the island's daily newspaper.|
He became interested in the Sackett family history in about 1990 when a hitherto unknown Australian cousin wrote asking generally for information on his branch. Realising he knew next to nothing, he set about finding out, and a mild interest gradually developed into a major enthusiasm. His enquiries led him to discover cousins in the U.K., not least Marion Sackett of Reading, Berkshire, who has carried out an enormous amount of primary research on the English Sacketts.
Chris is compiling the English data into 'book' form. He has been involved with the Sackett Discussion List since its inception and is delighted to have had the opportunity to meet some cousins from the List in Salt Lake City and in Boston, and to help with the work of the Sackett Association. He is a member of the Guild of One-Name Studies.
Amongst his other interests are history, especially political and military history, and local history where it relates to places settled by Sacketts, skiing and mountain walking, and trying to play the alto saxophone.
