Lewis C. Sackett

December 7, 1930 ~ November 20, 2018

During the early morning hours of November 20, 2018, our Dad and "Family Rock" passed away peacefully from his existence here on earth and into the loving arms of our Mother and all those who have gone before.

Dad said many times: "If I go tomorrow do not cry for me or be sad, just know that I had a wonderful life and I am happy and content and in a better place." Lewis C. Sackett (Lew/Ike) was born December 7, 1930, in Ogden Utah to Clifford W. Sackett and Effie McKay Sackett, where he was raised, educated and resided his entire life.

He attended Ogden High School, where a thin, dark-haired, big-eyed beauty caught his attention. Her name was Delores Pat Williams. Our parents would later be united in marriage in Evanston, WY in 1950. From that union came four children, (one deceased at birth). In November 2009, Mom and Dad were sealed for time and eternity in the Ogden Temple.

Lew was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a "God-loving" man who quietly lived his religion and beliefs by humble means, never judging others. He held various church callings throughout the years but at the young age of 87, was called to serve on the Stake High Council. This calling proved to be a little intimidating at first but became the most rewarding to him. He loved all those he served.

Dad became a very well known and respected building contractor in the state of Utah. Throughout the years, he built numerous homes, beginning with his own in 1952, (with the help of his father, Cliff). He also built several commercial businesses and various cabins in the Uinta Mountains and Bear Lake. Dad became the Resident Remodeler of the Ogden Athletic Club and took great pride in his finished projects. Never could a man be found to have more integrity, be more fair and honest and have such a great work ethic than our Dad. He exemplified this in his business ventures and his daily life.

Dad was a very active man throughout his life. In the early years, he hunted, fished, camped, bowled and played church ball. Over the years he found a great love for golfing, snowmobiling and just enjoying his beautiful cabin with family and friends. Since the passing of our Mom, he found a renewed passion of music, traveling with family, going for long rides, ice cream and game night with single friends of his ward. He was very compassionate about visiting those in a home or bedridden. Dad had numerous friends who he cherished with great love and respect.

A special thank you is extended to Dad's dear friend, Lucy Parkinson, for all of her care and concern for our father.

Lew is survived by his children, Rick (Randi) Sackett, Beaver, UT, Sherrie (Christopher) Johnson of Pleasant View, UT, and Kathie (Joe) Allen of Layton, UT. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Jack and Barry Sackett (brothers) and Sandi Wheelwright (sister). He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Pat; a baby boy; his parents, Clifford and Effie Sackett; three sisters; a young brother; and in-laws, George and Edith Williams.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a viewing Wednesday, November 28, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th St. Ogden, UT. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2018, with a viewing from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment at Aultorest Memorial Park.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to a charity of your choice or to the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden.
