Mrs. C. M. Sackett Burned to Death
Funeral Services Held Monday Afternoon at Ruggles.
Last Friday morning while looking at a pan of bread dough which had been placed near the gas stove, the clothing of Mrs. Lena Sackett, wife of Cloyd M. Sackett, who resided in Mansfield, caught fire from one of the flames and before she fully realized her danger had gained such headway that when she did try to extinguish the blaze or get any of the burning clothing off it was too late her face being practically the only part of her body that was not touched. Her cries for help were not heard for some time. When help did come she was given every attention possible and taken immediately to the Mansfield hospital.
Despite her intense suffering she was at all times perfectly conscious until a brief time before her death relieved her of agony that was almost unbearable.
At any time death is an unwelcome guest in any home but when it occurs so unexpectedly and in such a gruesome manner words cannot express the grief and sorrow of those who mourn. Happiness today, sadness tomorrow, surely the many friends of the bereaved family will extend to them their sincerest condolence in this their darkest hour.
The remains of Mrs. Sackett were brought to New London Sunday to the home of her mother Mrs. Emma Russell.
Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon and also at the Ruggles Congregational Church, Rev. Gardiner, pastor, being in charge of the services, in the presence of a large concourse of friends and relatives. Burial was in Ruggles Cemetery.
Obituary
Lena May Russell, daughter of Walter and Emma Russell, was born in New London Township November 28, 1881. She was married to Cloyd Sackett January 29, 1907. To this union was born one son, Harold. She was a kind and obliging neighbor and friend and a member of Olivesburg Methodist Church.
She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband, one son, a mother, one sister, beside a host of relatives and friends.
She was an extreme sufferer during the 21 hours she lived after her fatal accident but she bore it all patiently until death came to her relief at eight A.M. Oct. 15, 1921 at the Mansfield General Hospital.

Lena May Russell, daughter of W. W. and Emma Russell, born Nov. 28, 1881 in New London Township. United in marriage Jan. 29, 1907 to Cloyd M. Sackett. To this union one son was born July 7, 1911. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Olivesburg, O. She departed this life Oct. 15, 1921 at the Hospital in Mansfield. She is survived by her husband, one son, mother, Mrs. Emma Russell and one sister Bertha. The funeral was held at the Ruggles Congregational Church of which the husband was for many years a member. The Church was filled to its capacity. The Rev. Davis Gardiner was the officiating minister. Interment was in the family lot in Ruggles cemetery.
Very beautiful and impressive were the funeral services of Mrs. Cloyd Sackett held in the Church Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Gardiner.
The church was crowded with relatives and friends who came to pay their last tribute to one they loved.
The mass of lovely flowers which surrounded her coffin were tokens of sincere friendship and regard. She was laid to rest in the Ruggles Cemetery.
