Madison Lee Scott (1852-1925) and family

Madison Lee Scott was b. 1 Oct 1852 in Indiana to George M. Scott
(1828-1899) and Aner Jane Sackett (1830-1898). On 8 Apr 1878, he married
Mathursa Ann Phipps in Owen Co., Indiana. Mathursa is the daughter of
John Arnold Phipps (1834-1900) and Mary Lavina Everhart. Madison and
Mathrusa appear in Precinct B, Seward Co., Nebraska in the 1880 Census,
with daughter Jennie M. Scott (age 1, b. in Indiana). By 1900, they are
living in Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska with daughters Jennie Cochran
(married, age 21, b. Jan 1879), Millie (b. Oct 1882 in Nebraska), and
son William (b. Feb 1881 in Nebraska). By the 1910 Census, Jennie is
widowed, still living with her parents, brother and son John M. Cochran
(age 9, b. in Nebraska). In 1920, Jennie (widowed) and William (listed
as single) still are with their parents in Lincoln. Madison died 14 Apr
1925. In 1930, Mathursa and WIlliam (listed as divorced) are in the same
household in Lincoln. Mathursa died 16 Jun 1932. Madison and Jennie both
are buried in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska. They are
Find A Grave memorials 59198655 and 59198656, respectively.

We have two WW I draft registrations that clearly demonstrate the
connection between Jennie, William, John, and Mathursa; specifically,
all four lived at 1826 P St in Lincoln:

As for John Madison Cochran, we have the WW I draft registration, which
indicates he served in the US Navy. In addition, WW I Honor Roll,
Lancaster Co., Nebraska includes 149c - Seaman John M. Cochran, Lincoln,
NE. Born Lincoln, NE July 23, 1900. Son of John and Jennie Cochran.
Entered the service March 28, 1917. U. S. S. New York and U. S. S.
Huron. Overseas service. [An image of Seaman Cochran is available at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nelancas/ww1/149sm.jpg . He appears in the upper center.] Find A Grave Memorial 59198368 confirms the birth
date as 23 July 1900 and gives a death date of 30 Mar 1919, indicating
he was a Seaman in the US Navy. He also is buried in Wyuka Cemetery,
Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska.

Based on the WW I honor roll entry plus the 1900 census, Jennie M. Scott
first married John Cochran in or before 1900. Son John was b. in
Nebraska on 23 Jul 1900, and by 1910, Jennie was widowed. On 2 August
1926, she married David Wallace Schaberg in Kansas City (probably
Missouri). The June 11, 1927 issue of the Lincoln Evening Journal from
Lincoln, Nebraska (page 6) says, "PEOPLE YOU KNOW. The local chapter of
American War Mothers met for the last time until September-9 at the Y.
W. C A. Friday afternoon. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Jennie
M. Cochran Schaberg, vice president . . . ." Find A Grave memorial
59198648 indicates that Jennie was b. 11 Jan 1879 and d. 29 Jan 1933.
Memorial 74736856 indicates that David Wallace Schaberg was b. 22 Aug
1875 and d. 29 Aug 1935. He was b. in Nebraska to Herman Henry
[Heinrich] Schaberg (1844-1895) and Catherine "Kate" Wallace
(1849-1925). Jennie and David both are buried in Wyuka Cemetery,
Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska.

William P. Scott still was living in Lincoln in the 1940 census, alone.
Find A Grave memorial 59198658 gives his birth date as 1 Feb 1881, and
death as 16 Sep 1959. He also is buried in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln,
Lancaster Co., Nebraska.

I have not found any record of Millie Scott (b. Oct 1882) except for the
1900 census.

I will address Henry and Katerine Schaberg and John and Mary Phipps in
later posts.
